昆士兰科技大学孔子学院成立于2008年6月，是澳大利亚昆士兰州第一所孔子学院，2017年第十二届全球孔子学院大会上荣获“先进孔子学院”荣誉称号。2021年5月昆士兰科技大学与南京师范大学签订两校合作协议，共建昆士兰科技大学孔子学院。目前，该孔院下设10所孔子课堂学校和8所网络学校，覆盖首府布里斯班和整个昆士兰地区。
昆科大孔院的主要业绩包括：（1）昆士兰当地学校领导及汉语教师的专业发展；（2）昆士兰当地学校学生学习中国语言和文化的机会；（3）昆士兰当地社区及专业团体的汉语和文化项目。
自2018年起，昆士兰科技大学孔子学院就在下属的一所孔子课堂——Yeronga州立高中试点开设应用语言类的澳大利亚职业证书II的课程，进行汉语+初级导游和酒店职业技能的教学。目前已有三所孔子课堂学校提供该课程，还有几所学校计划在2022年和2023年陆续推出该课程。昆士兰科技大学孔子学院致力于为所有学生群体提供汉语和文化项目，孔院与马里伯勒特殊学校在2021年成功启动了一项针对智障学生的独特汉语教学计划。
目前，孔院的各项教学和文化活动虽受疫情影响，但仍在困难中前行。在2020年疫情期间，仍为7000多名学生提供了汉语和文化活动。
The Confucius Institute at QUT (CIQ), was officially launched in June 2009 and was the first Confucius Institute to be established in Queensland, Australia. Its key partner from 2009-2020 was JPDE and in 2021 a new partnership was established with NNU.
CIQ has ten Confucius Classroom Schools and eight Network Schools that are located in the state capital of Brisbane and throughout regional Queensland. Network Schools received similar support as Confucius Classroom schools, but do not receive annual funding for their classrooms.
CIQ’s goal is to provide opportunities for more Australians,particularly young Queenslanders, to confidentlyengage with China and effectively communicate with Chinese people to improveSino Australianbusiness andcommunity relationships. CIQ has received the “Confucius Institute of the Year” award since its establishment.
The Institute’s key activities are to provide:
1.professional development forschool leaders and teachers of Chineselanguage inQueensland schools
2.opportunities for Queensland schoolstudents to learn about Chineselanguageand culture
3.Chineselanguage and culture programs for community and professional groups inQueensland
Although all three activities are important, in the last three years, CIQ has invested most of its effort and workload on the second activity. In 2020,Chinese language and culture support activities were provided for over 7000 students, throughout Queensland. In 2021 the Institute has maintained this high-level output. Many of the CIQ affiliated schools are looking to establish sister schools partnerships with Jiangsu schools.
In 2018, CIQ was successful in obtaining a $23,000 Partnership Grant from the Queensland Government to pilot the delivery of the Australian Vocational Certificate II in Applied Language at Yeronga State High School, a CIQ Confucius Classroom school. This course teachesChinese language,concurrently with the teaching of entry level tour guiding and hospitality vocational skills,using Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). There are now three schools offering this course with several other schools planning to introduce this certificate in 2022 and 2023.
CIQ has a firm commitment to support and deliver Chinese language and culture programs for regional, remote and disadvantaged students. The Institute provides programs for many regional schools who have no support for language learning from other organisations.
CIQ ensures that students with disabilities have equitable access to all CIQ programs and makes reasonable adjustment to ensure disability access. In 2021, the Institute successfully initiated a unique program with the Maryborough Special School for students with significant intellectual disabilities.
